First Post

At the end of the first night of the battle of Shiloh, General Sherman found General Grant under a large oak tree, leaning against the trunk, whittling a small branch. He had been sitting there for hours, avoiding his headquarters, which was full of the screams and moans of injured soldiers.

"Well, Grant...we've had the Devil's own day, haven't we?"

Grant didn't look up, kept whittling in a slow steady pace.

"Yep," he answered, "Lick em tomorrow though."
